Vanilla Ice Get Miley Cyrus' Name Tattooed on His Feet!

Permanent praise for a pop star? To commemorate her first Rolling Stone cover, Miley Cyrus got the words "Rolling $tone" tattooed on the soles of her feet. Now, Vanilla Ice has paid tribute to the pop star by getting "Miley Cyru$" written on his hooves. The 45-year-old shared a snapshot of his new body art via Twitter on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
"WORD TO YOUR MOTHER !" the rapper and reality star captioned. "LMAO!" It's unclear if Ice's ink is real (though we can't imagine it is).
Cyrus, 20, has yet to comment on the musician's tattoo. She did, however, cite Ice as a cautionary tale when describing Justin Bieber's career trajectory in the Oct. 8 issue of Rolling Stone.
"He's trying really hard," she said of her pop star peer. "People don't take him seriously, but he really can play the drums, he really can play guitar, he really can sing. I just don't want to see him f-ck that up, to where people think he's Vanilla Ice. I tell him that. Like, 'You don't want to become a joke. When you go out, don't start shit. Don't come in shirtless.' But the thing is, I think boys are, like, seven years behind. So in his head, he's really, like, 12."
If Ice's tattoo is indeed legit, he wouldn't be the first famous person to get inked in Cyrus' honor.
"People get tattoos of the most f--ked-up shit," she said. "Did you know Alec Baldwin has Hannah Montana's initials tattooed on him? No, wait—Stephen Baldwin. He said he was my biggest fan, and I told him my biggest fans have tattoos. So he got ‘hm' tattooed on his shoulder. People do f--ked-up shit."

40 Dead, 100 Missing As Boat Capsize in River Niger

No fewer than 42 people were on Friday drowned in a boat mishap on River Niger close to Malilli village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger.

100 others on board were missing in the mishap which occurred at about 2 pm.

The Public Relation Officer, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Malam Ibrahim Hussaini, confirmed the incident to NAN in a telephone interview on Saturday.

Details were sketchy, but according to him the boat was filled with traders returning from Malili village back to Tunga Illo village across River Niger after the day’s market. It had over 150 passengers and capsized midway to its destination.

The spokesman said that local divers from Malili village had recovered 42 corpses, while about a hundred were still missing. He added that neighboring villages had been alerted to look out for floating corpses and efforts were being intensified to rescue possible survivors or the corpse of those drowned.

He said the recovered corpses would be given mass burial close to the river bank.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Saidu Ndako, confirmed the boat mishap.

“We believe that the boat was overload because the boat’s capacity was put at 60 passengers, but over 150 passengers were said to be on board during the incident.

“The debris in the swollen river may also have been responsible for the incident,’’ He added.

Ndako said that the government condoled with those who had lost their loved ones, and pray that Allah grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Kogi Deputy Gov survives road acciden

Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, the Kogi Deputy Governor, on Sunday escaped unhurt in an accident which involved his convoy on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

The affected vehicles, a Mercedes Benz jeep with Lagos registration number, YAB 966 AQ and a Honda Accord with Lagos registration number LND 742 BE had earlier collided before the van ran into them near Kwali.
The statement which said the driver of the Honda Accord lost control while trying to overtake the Mercedes Benz added that Awoniyi, who was on his way to Lokoja after an official engagement in Abuja, escaped unhurt.
Abu disclosed that those in the escort van sustained minor injuries along with four policemen and were receiving treatment at the Kwali General Hospital and were responding to treatments.

ASUU Strike: Jonathan calls for review of labour laws

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday advocated a review of labour laws to curtail the excesses of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other labour unions.
The President, who made the call during a Presidential media chat in Abuja, urged the striking members of ASUU to return to work in the interest of their students and the education sector.
The President also said it was inconceivable that lecturers in state-owned universities would go on strike over issues concerning the allowances of lecturers in federal universities.
He said such a situation would not occur if well-guided and well-thought out laws were in place regulating labour union activities.
Jonathan also said that the N79 billion Earned Allowance arrears, which was the major reason for the ASUU strike, was not supposed to be paid from the federation account.
According to the President, earned allowances ought to be paid from the Internally Generated Revenue of the universities, if a good labour law is in place.
Jonathan called on the striking ASUU to reconsider its stand by accepting government offer, and call its members back to the classrooms.
The President reiterated the commitment of his administration to adequately fund the universities and provide the necessary infrastructure to aid the education sector
Jonathan said that the PDP-led administration had done quite well, despite all the odds and challenges
According to him, Nigeria is better off in the past years of the PDP-led government with improved standard of living, building of more federal universities, improved telecommunication, railways and roads.
The President assured that with the commitment of his administration to the privatisation of the power sector, electricity supply would become stable by the end of the first quarter of 2014.

Model Punches Topless Protester During Paris Fashion Week

Talk about looking fierce on the catwalk!
Things got a bit rowdy at the Nina Ricci fashion show during Paris Fashion Week when model Hollie-May Saker claims she punched a topless protestor who stormed the runway.
The protestor-turned-punching-bag was one of two gutsy gals from the Ukrainian feminist group Femen, who took to the catwalk screaming and flaunting their half-naked bodies covered with the slogans "Model don't go brothel" and "Fashion dictaterror.
Saker had her own words for the feminists, taking to Twitter following the show to express her rage over the incident.
"FEEEEEEUUUUMIN," she wrote. "THAT BITCH RUINED AND HAD HER SAGGY TITS IN MY FACE."
But she had more than insults to fling at the protesters, explaining to media that she took a swipe at one of the runway crashers.
"As she grabbed my arm she lifted my skirt exposing me ," she told the LiverpooI Echo about the protestor. "I pulled my arm back with such force that I landed a punch square on her nose. I was so angry but I knew I had to be professional so I carried on walking with a bit of sassiness."
Indeed, a video of the runway run-in shows the leggy lady showing a bit of attitude as she angrily jerks her hand away from the disruptive Femen member, but we're not so sure Saker actually struck her on the nose—or anywhere else for that matter.
One thing's for sure, she's definitely not afraid to speak her mind.
Another tweet during Paris Fashion Week saw her calling out a few of her fellow models.
"Can't stand some of the other models at shows...You're walking for some of the worlds greatest designers..," she shared. "Crack a smile ungrateful bitch."
How's that for a fashion statement?

I am the Jesus of Nigerian music - Jesse Jagz

Jesse Jagz, producer, singer and artist MI’s younger brother, claims he is Nigerian music's saviour and the only musician who can rescue Nigerian music.

"My top 3 artistes in Nigeria are me, me, me. No one works harder than me."

"Can Jesse Jagz make Nigeria a better place for Wizkid? Can Wizkid do same too?

"Let adults do better and let kids party. We need to leave something better for the coming generation."

Rihanna Starts Adelaide Concert 90 Minutes Late, Angers Fans

Well, that's not a good start to a show.
Rihanna was more than an hour late to her concert in Adelaide, Australia, on Thursday, Sept. 26, and was met by boos instead of cheers when she finally took the stage, according to The Australian.
RiRi did not give the crowd an explanation for her tardiness, but did say that it took her a "long time to get back to Australia."
"Adelaide, what the f--k, I'm finally here," the 25-year-old singer said to her fans. "And I now remember how crazy my Australian fans are," she continued.

The Barbadian singer showed no signs of trouble at the show, tweeting post-performance "#ADELAIDE Thank you so much!!!"
But some fans weren't as forgiving on Twitter.
"@rihanna thanks for a disappointing show last night..as if #Adelaide doesnt suck enough already #igotdressedforthat #late," @TBomb_Moritz said.
"#whilewaitingforrihanna I auditioned for X Factor, won it, became a pop star myself and turned up late to my own concert," @petstarr joked.
Next stop on the Diamonds World Tour: Brisbane on Saturday, Sept. 28.  Better show up on time, RiRi!

Kelly Osbourne Defends Miley Cyrus: "If You Don't Like It Then Piss Off!"

If there's one thing Kelly Osbourne knows for sure—that Miley Cyrus isn't putting on some act just for attention.
"This is something that George from Fashion Police can attest to because he met her for the first time and goes, 'Wow, she's exactly how you would imagine her to be and how she portrays herself to be,'" Osbourne said at British Airways' launch party for its new Airbus A380. "And that's the truth."
"If you don't like it then piss off," Osbourne said, adding, "She's a young woman who is just expressing herself."
That doesn't mean Osbourne likes everything the "Wrecking Ball" popstar does.
"This outfit Lady Gaga wore to the Grammy's three years ago when she came out of an egg," Osbourne said on Fashion Police about the former Hannah Montana's now infamous MTV VMAs performance. "It's not that original but I do appreciate its reminiscent of the 'Blurred Lines' music video. It's just...Miley's my friend and I love her, and I have her back no matter what, but as her friend I'm going to tell her: 'Put your f--king tongue in your mouth. I love you, but just put your tongue in your mouth.'"

Miley Cyrus Doesn’t Like Cocaine, Thinks "Weed Is the Best Drug on Earth"

As if we didn't know already, Miley Cyrus is officially out of the cannabis closet.
In her heavily hyped cover story in the Oct. 8 issue of Rolling Stone, the "Wrecking Ball" singer does yet another bang-up job putting her Disney princess past behind her as she dishes candidly about her drug use and reveals how much she enjoys smoking pot.
"I think weed is the best drug on earth. One time I smoked a joint with peyote in it, and I saw a wolf howling at the moon," the 20-year-old Cyrus tells the magazine.
Or perhaps a bunch of oversized stuffed animals à la her infamous VMAs performance?
As for any harder substances she's run across amidst the high-flying, celebrity environs of L.A., the twerk queen confesses she's dabbled in cocaine, but isn't a fan, while also hinting she's tried molly, aka ecstasy.
"Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And molly, too. Those are happy drugs—social drugs," she explains. "They make you want to be with friends. You're out in the open. You're not in a bathroom. I really don't like coke. It's so gross and so dark. It's like what are you, from the '90s? Ew."
During the sit-down, Cyrus also sounds off on some weightier subjects, like the civil rights struggle of the 1960s and how times have changed over the last five decades, including the advent of gay marriage.
"When my kids are around, there will be no one on this planet who was alive when there was segregation. Like, my grandma was around when there was real segregation, when there was no intertwining," Cyrus remarks.
She continues: "For her, for someone that was born in the '30s, it's kind of shocking to have a black president. My grandma didn't have a f--king phone even in her house. It was like Gone With the Wind. Calling long distance was like the craziest s--t ever. Now my grandma's like, 'What do you mean you can watch a video on your phone?' It's gonna be the exact same thing with my kids: 'What do you mean gay people couldn't get married?'
And Cyrus also spills on another drug of sorts—her relationship with fame and how much she loves the attention it's brought her ever since her Hannah Montana days.
"I said I was going to take a year off before I made this record. But it's hard to take a break. It's almost depressing when you're not working. You're so used to people calling your name, and that energy, and when you don't have it anymore…That's why I never complain about people wanting autographs or pictures," says the popster. "Because if there were a few days where no one asked, I'd probably be like 'What the f--k's going on? Do people not like me?'"

Mum on trial over son's rape in jail visiting room! for holding her own son to be raped by father!

A French mother went on trial on Monday, charged with holding down her four-year-old son while his stepfather raped him repeatedly in a prison visiting room. The couple are accused of having covered the room's windows with bin bags to obstruct the view of guards.
n a case which could lead to the prison itself also facing legal action, Sabrina Bonner, 25, and the step-father, her partner Lionel Barthelemy, 31, are charged with multiple sexual assaults on the boy, who is now eight and in the care of social services.

Barthelemy admits raping the child in the visiting room at the Toul detention centre in eastern France in February 2010, but claims it was an isolated act initiated by Bonner.

She claims the prison incident and other rapes which she filmed were carried out under orders and the threat of violence from her partner, who allegedly listened to one assault from his prison cell on his mobile phone.

The trial, which is due to run for three days, will shed light on why prison staff failed to stop, or even notice, an act of such brutality taking place during what was supposed to be a supervised visit to a prisoner serving a sentence for domestic violence who had been diagnosed as having schizophrenic tendencies.

Prosecutors have indicated they will present evidence that black bin bags were used to cover the glass window of the door to the room in which the visit took place and that, as in other French prisons, this was standard practice to allow prisoners privacy with their partners during visits.

Yannick Pheulpin, the advocate representing the little boy, said he intended, at the end of the trial, to initiate legal proceedings aimed at holding the prison to account for the suffering of the child.

The prosecution alleges that Bonner blindfolded her son and made him kneel on a chair in front of Barthelemy, then held him by the arms as he was raped.

"Mrs Bonner made herself an accomplice to the crime by bringing her son to the visiting room twice on the same day: once in the morning when a first rape took place and a second time in the afternoon, knowing perfectly well that it was going to happen again," Pheulpin said.

Bonner has admitted carrying out multiple sexual assaults on her child during 2009 and 2010, filming them on her mobile phone and giving the phone's memory card to her imprisoned partner.

She gave herself up to police in May 2011, shortly before Barthelemy was due to be released from prison.

"She will not try to minimise her responsibility," her lawyer, Dominique Bergmann, said.

Bonner and Barthelemy face maximum prison terms of 20 years if convicted as charged.

This isn't the only scandal to have hit French prisons in recent years.

Back in February 2012, the director of a women's prison west of Paris was himself sent to jail for having an affair with one of the inmates, including having sex with her repeatedly in an IT room.

During the spring, it took authorities six weeks to track down and capture Redoine Faid, a notorious French gangster who made a daring escape from jail, taking four prison guards hostage along the way.

In June, a judge took the rare step of ordering the release of a prisoner near Paris, due to the shocking condition of his cell. A hole in the ceiling left him cold and wet as wind and rain blew into the tiny living quarters.

There was widespread anger and embarrassment in August, when a legal technicality caused a French judge to pave the way for hundreds of convicted criminals to walk free from French prisons.

Porn Star, Afrocandy, Gets angry with Police for arresting couple Making out in the bush

Heheheheeheheee...our regular Controversial porn star, Afrocandy thinks the police are wrong for arresting this couple making out in the bush! She what she posted on facebook and tweeter!
It reads:
"How barbaric and how low could we get Africa? Parading people naked everyday for one stupid reasons or the other. We don't live in caves no more and this is 2013 for goodness sakes. Look at this case, 2 grown adults were caught and arrested for enjoying themselves in the 'bush'? Why the arrest? They were not harming or hurting anybody, were not committing any crimes and were not even doing it in public, at least they hid in the bush since they could not afford the motel. Abeg tell me, would they have come to your house to do it? Conji knows no boundaries o and sometime you have to take it anywhere it holds you......The world is moving very fast so make we wise up !!"
And then a fan replied her by saying he would ask her to sleep with him in the bush one day!

Eva Longoria Doesn't Want to Get Married Again or Have Kids on Her Own

Eva Longoria hasn't given up on love. But marriage? That's a different story. During a Thursday, Sept. 26, appearance on Access Hollywood Live, the former Desperate Housewives star explained why she has no intention of ever tying the knot again. "I've been married twice," said Longoria, who divorced Tyler Christopher in 2004 and Tony Parker in 2011. "Been there, done that!"
Don't expect the 38-year-old actress to follow in the footsteps of other single stars like Charlize Theron, Connie Britton and Sandra Bullock, all of whom adopted children later in life. "I'm not one of those women who are like, 'I must procreate!'" Longoria said of becoming a mom.
"I think kids are a product of love," she added. "So, if you find the right person and you want to have a family with that person, then that's when the time is right. But...if I'm 50 and single, I'm not going to go do it myself."Longoria also denied rumors she had a fling with close pal George Clooney. "[Rumors] start all the time," she said. "Thank god it was a good one!"
During the interview, Longoria also admitted that she's not afraid of aging. "It's kind of irrelevant to me. I work out a lot, and I eat really well, and I just do that because I feel better," she said. "I'm not really overly concerned with it."
Longoria continued, "I love aging, as far as getting wiser. I have no desire to be 25 again. Maybe I want my 25-year-old body, but I don't want my 25-year-old mind!"
Even so, the single star—she recently split with Ready for Love reality star Ernesto Arguello—said she would consider going under the knife to turn back the hands of time. "I am not opposed to surgery or whatever stuff is going to be available," she revealed. "Sign me up!"

Prince William and Kate Middleton Get Conjugal Coat of Arms—See the Cambridge Family Shield!

There's a great alternative to the oh-so-cliché "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters everyone has these days: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's new family crest!
On Friday, Sept. 27, Prince William and Kate Middleton's Conjugal Coat of Arms was unveiled to the public. The Cambridges' official emblem features William's Royal Shield, given to him by Queen Elizabeth II on his 18th birthday, and the Middleton family shield, which was granted to Kate's family before the royal wedding in 2011.
Will and Kate's individual family shields are supported by a royal lion and a unicorn. Per the palace's press release, the unicorn is wearing a collar featuring a red shell derived from the Spencer Coat of Arms. This is an homage to the late Princess Diana's family and has been used on her side of the family for centuries.

A Kensington Palace spokesman explained that the Conjugal Arms will belong to Will and Kate "forever," but as "their circumstances and roles" change, "elements of the accoutrements and the shields may change."
In addition to this Conjugal Coat of Arms, William and Kate will retain their own Coats of Arms "to represent themselves as individuals," the palace stated. Kate's individual seal features William's arms alongside her father Michael Middleton's arms.

Michael Adebolajo, Adebowale deny brutal murder of British soldier

Two men pleaded not guilty to the brutal murder of a British soldier on a London street when they appeared in court on Friday.
Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22, appeared by videolink from prison to deny murdering Lee Rigby in Woolwich, southeast London, on May 22.
Rigby’s widow broke down in tears and sobbed as the video was broadcast in a packed courtroom at the Old Bailey court in London.
Both men also denied attempting to murder a police officer on May 22, the day of Rigby’s death, and conspiracy to murder a police officer on or before that day.
Adebolajo — who was listed in court documents as Mujaahid Abu Hamza — and Adebowale will go on trial on November 17.

Jimmy Kimmel Talks Kanye West Twitter Rant: "Finally, I'm in a Rap Feud"

So...Kanye West is actually pretty mad, eh?
During his monologue Thursday, Jimmy Kimmel addressed the rapper's profanity-studded Twitter rant from earlier today in which he went off on the late-night host in response to a bit from Jimmy Kimmel Live that poked fun at Kanye's much-talked-about interview with BBC Radio One.
"Quick question," Jimmy kicked off the show. "Did anyone else get a very angry phone call from Kanye West about an hour and a half ago? Just me? OK, I didn't know if he was mad at all of us."
Picking up the subject again about 15 minutes later, he described the pre-rant call he got from Kanye.
"He told me I had two choices: apologize publicly...and that was really the only choice!" Jimmy said. "The other choice he gave was that my life—'Your life,' he said, 'is going to be much better if you apologize.' Then he started tweeting today and I don't even know if I've seen some of these tweets, because they're happening as we speak..."
Then Jimmy started going through Kanye's tweets (which were all in caps), starting with the one that got the ball rolling: "Jimmy Kimmel is out of line to try and spoof in any way the first piece of honest media in years."
He continued to parse the tweets, including the one that inquired whether Jimmy would like it if Kanye did a spoof about "your face or you f--king Ben Affleck."
Which, by the way, was a spoof," Jimmy reminded everyone. "I don't know if he thought that was news." Noting the use of the hash tags "#nodisrespecttobenaffleck" and "#alldisrespecttojimmy kimmel," he cracked, "A lot of hash in those tags."
"And he told me this on the phone, I swear," the veteran funnyman continued, "he said, 'I am the most powerful voice in media. I am 'Pac! He said 'I am 'Pac' a few times to me. He said, 'You'll never be able to show your face at a 14-year-old's high school football game and be cool again.'
"He really is 'Pac," Jimmy said, smiling but looking a bit baffled. "That's right ouf of the Tupac playbook, isn't it?"
"I don't understand it, I don't know why he's angry again," Jimmy continued. "I thought the bit was pretty innocuous. Finally I'm in a rap feud."
"Do you have my back?" he asked side-kick Guillermo, who promised, while munching on a snack, to watch his boss' back.
"Right now we're at Def-Kanye Five," Jimmy concluded. "Thanks, Kanye, appreciate it."
He promised to keep us posted and all remains quiet on the Twitter front for now.

NUT threatens to close schools if ASUU don't end Strike

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has given a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the strike, embarked upon by university lecturers.

Mr. Michael Olukoya, the NUT President stated this in Abuja at the end of the Union’s meeting with teachers’ representatives across the country today, September 26, 2013.

Mr. Olukoya said that members of the Union would not hesitate to close down the nation’s schools, if the two parties failed to reach agreement after two weeks. He described the current ASUU strike as nationalistic, patriotic and self-sacrificing.

/ Kanye West Blasts Jimmy Kimmel on Twitter for Spoofing His "No. 1 Rock Star" Interview—and Jimmy's Loving It!

Epic Twitter feud alert! (Or epic prank alert! It remains to be seen.) But if it's real...
Kanye West apparently saw no humor whatsoever in Jimmy Kimmel Live's recent parody of the lengthy, in-depth interview the rapper gave to BBC's Radio One, in which he referred to himself as the "No. 1 rock star on the planet" and delved into various personal topics.
Or, as Kanye put it in his first of many tweets, the "FIRST PIECE OF HONEST MEDIA IN YEARS."
"JIMMY KIMMEL, I DON'T TAKE IT AS A JOKE... YOU DON'T HAVE SCUM BAGS HOPPING OVER FENCES TRYING TO TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR DAUGHTER," he continued. "YOU CAN'T PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES. YOUR FACE LOOKS CRAZY...IS THAT FUNNY?...OR IF I HAD A KID SAY IT WOULD BE FUNNY???"
Well, yeah! The spoof that angered Kanye featured a pretty adorable little boy reciting actual snippets of the artist's interview while fiercely sipping a milk shake in between sound bites.
"I brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said 'no'!" little Kanye exclaimed in the "Kanye Kid Re(Kreation)." "How many [bleep] you seen with leather jogging pants? Where the culture at? Where is the culture at?!"
Kanye continued to not laugh.
"SHOULD I DO A SPOOF ABOUT YOUR FACE OR YOU F--KING BEN AFFLECK…#NODISRESPECTTOBENAFFLECK #ALLDISRESPECTTOJIMMYKIMMEL!!!!" he went on. (The Affleck sentiment was actually posted twice at first, and then one of them was deleted. So there was time for copy-editing, apparently.)
Instead, Kimmel appeared to fully enjoy reaping what he had sowed.
"apparently @KanyeWest is VERY VERY ANGRY with me...." the funnyman tweetedwhen he first got wind of Kanye's rant. "if it's not too much trouble @kanyewest, would you mind using @jimmykimmel ? Thanks"
And Kanye didn't let up. In fact, it was all downhill from there.
"I LIKE YOU, YOU KNOW ME, I WENT TO YOUR FAMILY'S WEDDING," he added, to which Jimmy replied, "I like you too! Glad we cleared this up."
"WHO YOU MADE IT CLEAR TO ME WASN'T YOUR FAMILY WHEN I WAS ON THEN PHONE WITH YOU 5 MINUTES AGO, YOU MANIPULATIVE MEDIA MUTHERF---ER," Kanye continued.
Kimmel then swatted back with, "I know! #WreckItRalph, right?!" when Kanye jabbed at him with, "SARAH SILVERMAN IS A THOUSAND TIMES FUNNIER THAN YOU AND THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS IT!!!"
And then Kanye started tweeting pictures—one of which Jimmy duly retweeted, of course.
"I swear, @kanyewest one more of these I WILL unfollow you #warning #Goshdarnit," Kimmel wrote.
We're told that Jimmy is going to address these goings-on in his monologue tonight. Stay tuned for what's sure to be a really great explanation of something.

Strike Continues, Says ASUU

University teachers said yesterday that their strike will go on — 89 days after it began.
This is in spite of the intervention by Vice President Namadi Sambo in bringing the lecturers back to the negotiation table.
The teachers are seeking proper funding of education and the payment of their N87 billion earned allowances.
These are part of the 2009 agreement between the teachers and the government. The government has offered N30 billion for the earned allowances and made available N100billion for projects on the campuses. The lecturers rejected the offer. The strike has been on since July 1.
The latest position of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the umbrella association of the teachers to go on with the strike, was made known yesterday by University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter Chairman Dr. Karo Ogbinika, in a statement.
According to him, ASUU last month pulled out of the negotiation with the Federal Government, which was represented by Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, based on the government’s insincerity and non-commitment.
He said the Presidency intervened, calling for another round of meetings with Vice President Namadi Sambo last week which, according to ASUU, also ended in a stalemate.
The union said it was disappointed because it hoped the Presidency’s intervention would dampen the tension the strike had generated; but, rather, the government was re-echoing the same stance by Suswam, which was why ASUU withdrew from the negotiation.
ASUU said: “After the meeting on September 19 with the Vice-President, it is clear that the Federal Government is merely paying lip service to education in Nigeria and deceiving the public on its commitment to its transformation agenda.
“The Nigerian people should not be deceived. How can there be a meaningful transformation when the education sector is neglected and gradually taken over by private entrepreneurs, including government functionaries who are busy bulding private universities with stolen funds in and outside Nigeria. Can these universities be truly called private?
“ASUU is assuring Nigerians that it will not back out in its struggle to ensure that the government is made to do what is right in the education sector. This is a commitment that all members of the union have vowed to pursue to its logical conclusion.”
The union said it had reported back to its various zones many of which still insisted the strike must continue.”
Hundreds of students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) yesterday gave the Federal Government a one week ultimatum to meet all the demands of ASUU or face the wrath of students.
The students, who staged a peaceful protest, urged the Federal Government to respect and implement the 2009 ASUU/FG agreement.
Addressing the protesters at the BUK gate, the university’s Students Union President, Sani Ibrahim, said they were forced to stage the protest, “because we are tired of staying at home”. “Our mates in other countries are in school; why should the case of Nigerian students be different?”
“As part of the struggle to fight for our right is being pursued, I will like to salute our students for their patience while receiving the negative consequences of bad governance. We believe that the delay in resuming lectures in our universities is not only lamentable but also devastating. We believe even more strongly that now is the time to let our leaders know that enough is enough and we shall wake up and say ‘no’ to injustice being meted out to Nigerian students.
“We also call on the government to review the annual budget for the education sector from eight per cent to 26 per cent, so as to ensure adequate rehabilitation of infrastructure in our universities, including hostels, laboratories, potable water and constant supply of electricity.
“We are calling on ASUU to give government more opportunity to dialogue so as to quickly resolve the differences in the best interest of Nigerian students. We are giving ASUU and the Federal Government one week to sort things out and resume lectures; otherwise Nigerian students will look for other alternatives to fight for our right. Education is our right and no one should take it away from us,” Ibrahim noted.
But for the intervention of the police, who pleaded with the protesting students, they would have taken to the streets.
ASUU members at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) insisted yesterday that they would not return to work, until the Federal Government resolves the issues.
This was contrary to a report that the management was already consulting with the striking lecturers on the need to call back the students by end of this month.
The union urged Vice-Chancellor Prof. Femi Mimiko to toe the path of rule of law and refrain from any desperate act of self-help in his attempt to reopen the university.
In a statement by their counsel, Mr. Charles Titiloye, the union noted with great concern the threat by the vice-chancellor to re-open the University for academic activities, despite of the strike.
The union warned that it would not allow contract lecturers or newly employed graduate fellows to be used to resume teaching in the school.

Haven Homes celebrates 2face

In order to show appreciation for his artistic ingenuity,  Haven Homes, promoters and developers of lifestyle living recently took time out to celebrate one of Nigeria’s most talented music stars, 2Face Idibia in grand style.
The company, which also endorsed the “African Queen” crooner as its roving ambassador decided to celebrate 2Face, for making the top ten in the recently released Ten Bankable Artistes list in Africa by Forbes and Channel O. 2Face clinched the 6th position, having been credited with the oration: “10 million disc and at least 7 milllion digital scale, multiple ambassadors, one campaign associated with Guinness, Haven Homes, Airtel Worldwide and philanthropist- 2Face Foundation!
Apart from getting involved in “Awards Projects” which he explained was aimed at giving back to the society, ensuring peace and addressing the ills of violence, unfairness and injustices among others, the  Haven Homes brand recently deployed 2Face’s musical artistry and ingenuity to adapt a theme song that depicts the affordable luxury brand of homes that the company develops. The song is currently on Haven Homes’ website.  2Face had earlier purchased some units of houses from the Haven Homes exquisite stable.
Seven Nigerian artistes were featured on the distinguished list of musical achievers. The Managing Director of Haven Homes Global Resources, the company whose exquisite brand 2Face endorses as its ambassador, Mr. Tayo Sonuga was proud of the various successes recorded by 2Face.
“2Face is phenomenal, a talented, hardworking, world class musical artiste of Africa roots who has won several awards in his career and has many more coming. He is one ambassador our brand is very proud to have on our brand. Forbes is a great name that you can not fault them in such matters but I’m surprised that he’s not higher on the list. I expected him to be in the top three, maybe Forbes and Channels O based it on the values of their endorsements and not their personal wealth. Nevertheless, 2Face is deserving of the recognition and we congratulate him,” Mr. Sonuga remarked.

Edo High Court judge kidnapped

Justice Daniel Okungbowa of the Edo State High Court has been kidnapped.
This incident happened less than three weeks after the release of a human rights activist and lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhomhe, SAN, by his abductors.
Justice Okungbowa was reportedly kidnapped in Benin City, the state capital, while his whereabouts remain unknown at press time.
Meanwhie, the Benin branch of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, led by its Chairman, Mr. Oriame Akene led lawyers to protest to the Edo State Police Command office and the Department of Security Service, DSS, where they demanded for the release of the abducted judge unhurt.
The lawyers described the Judge’s kidnap as one too many and appealed to the security agencies to do something about it.

It will be recalled that recently, the wife, daughter and driver of Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour of the Supreme Court were kidnapped in Benin, Edo State.
The gunmen reportedly waylaid the woman, her daughter and their driver at gunpoint as they were driving to Benin, in preparation for Justice Vivour daughter’s wedding.
It was learnt that that Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour and her daughter were kept in a house in Upper Sakpoba area of Benin City from where the suspects were arrested.

Forbes' highest-earning celebrity couples

Forbes magazine has released its annual shortlist of the world's highest-earning celebrity couples, but who came in at number one?

When Kim Kardashian and Kanye West started dating, their earning potential skyrocketed. Of course, a powerful couples list couldn't ignore their friends Jay Z and Beyoncé. They both have incredibly successful music careers but their reach goes far beyond that.
Then there's Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie - they're two of the most popular movie stars in the world, but these days Angelina is probably more known for her humanitarian efforts than for her acting.
Gisele Bundchen, the world's highest-earning supermodel, is also on Forbes' list. Combine her modelling with her business interests, including her line of flip-flops, and she's unstoppable. And that's even before her husband Tom Brady's earnings are taken into account!
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are proof that you don't need to court fame to earn millions. The low-key couple are in Forbes' list of the highest-earning celebrity couples, but where do they rank?

President Barack Obama Reveals Why He Quit Smoking: "I'm Scared of My Wife"

Be careful what you say, President Barack Obama!
While privately chit-chatting with UN General Assembly attendee Maina Kiai this week, the commander in chief didn't realize one of his microphones was still on and let slip a funny anecdote about wife Michelle Obama.
"I hope you've quit smoking," Obama said to Kiai, who replied, "Sometimes."
"I haven't had a cigarette in probably six years," Obama continued, adding with a smile and laugh, "That's because I'm scared of my wife."
LOL!
Back in 2011, Michelle revealed that her husband had finally kicked his smoking habit, saying, "He's always wanted to quit."
And back in 2008, Obama told People he wasn't an every-day smoker. "That was always a little over-hyped," he said of the reports. "You know, I'd sneak maybe three, four cigarettes a day, then I could go three or four days without one."
It sure sounds like Obama's done smoking for good, thanks to the positive influence of the First Lady!

Miley Cyrus Mentors Justin Bieber: "People Don't Take Him Seriously"

Miley Cyrus' career choices may be confusing to some, but if one thing's clear, it's that she's calling the shots. Perhaps that explains why the "Wrecking Ball" singer is mentoring fellow pop star Justin Bieber, whose transition from teen star to serious musician has also caused some controversy.
In the Oct. 8 issue of Rolling Stone, Cyrus, 20, says she's spent "a little bit" of time advising Bieber, 19. "I'm not much older than him, so I never want it to feel like I'm mentoring him. But I do mentor him in a way. Because I've been doing this shit for a long time, and I already transitioned, and I don't think he's quite done it yet," she says.

Snake found on Qantas plane at Sydney airport, forcing delay

Hundreds of passengers bound for Japan were stranded in Australia overnight after a snake was found on a Qantas plane at Sydney airport.

Staff found the 20cm-long (eight-inch) Mandarin rat snake in the cabin before passengers boarded the Boeing 747 on Sunday.
It is not clear how the snake, which poses no threat to humans, had got on the flight from Singapore.
A replacement flight left for Tokyo on Monday morning.
The 370 stranded passengers spent the night in hotels in Sydney.
The snake - about the width of a pencil - was found near the doorway of the cabin, a Qantas spokeswoman said.
It was taken away by Department of Agriculture officials and later killed to make sure it did not introduce non-native pests or diseases into the country. The plane would be fumigated before returning to service, officials added, in case it was not the only snake on board.
Australia's Agriculture Department said it "was looking into how the snake came to be on the plane, but isn't able to speculate at this time".
The Mandarin rat snake is commonly found in Asia. Adults can grow to more than 1.2m (four feet) long.
This is the second time this year a snake has turned up on a Qantas plane.
In January, a scrub python was discovered on the wing of one of the airline's planes as it flew between the Australian city of Cairns and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. The python died during the flight.

Late Mc Loph's mother Dies!

According to reports, she passed away few days ago at a private hospital in Enugu after a brief illness.

Mrs Obiajulu lost her two children, MC Loph and his sister on the 14th of September 2011 in a ghastly motor accident on the Benin Ore Expressway on their way to a traditional wedding. The car they drove in somersaulted many time before plunging into a ditch.

After the death of her son, Mrs Obiajulu accused Emeka Morgan (his manager) of killing him.
Read an excerpt from her interview before her death:
“Emeka Morgan killed my only son and daughter, left me childless and handicapped. Since Obiajulu died, the only time I set my eyes on the so-called Morgan was in May 2012, when he came with Obi Madubogu, gave me a bag of rice, a gallon of groundnut oil and N60, 000 and asked me never to allow Nkiru (MC Loph’s wife) to have a share of the money. But I couldn’t, I gave the money over to Nkiru after he left and it was used to fix the Camry with which she does most of her run rounds in Lagos. Since then, he had neither called nor checked on me again.”

67yr old man dies on flight from Lagos to Houston

Houston police are awaiting autopsy results on a Nigerian man, who died at about 8:25 a.m. Tuesday on a US-bound flight out of Lagos.
The male, Benedict Sylvester Igwedike, 67, of Lagos, Nigeria, died on board a United Airlines flight.
According to HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer, M. Miller, patrol officers responded to a deceased male who was on board the United Airlines flight #143 arriving from Lagos, Nigeria.
Miller said: "Further investigation determined Mr. Igwedike passed away shortly after the flight departed from Nigeria.

"The flight was then rerouted to Dakar, Senegal. After refuelling, authorities in Senegal rerouted the flight to Houston."
The investigation is pending Igwedike's cause of death says Miller.
The normal time for the direct flight between Lagos and Houston, Texas is about 13 hours but the plane was diverted to the capital of Senegal ostensibly to administer further medical treatment on the late Igwedike.

Jackson: Lawyer asks for $85m for kids, $35m for mother

The promoters of Michael Jackson’s doomed last tour should pay hundreds of millions of dollars in damages to the late pop icon’s family over his 2009 death, a lawyer said in closing arguments
In a heartstrings-tugging final presentation wrapping up a five-month trial, attorney Brian Panish urged jurors to award $85 million to each of the star’s three children and $35 million to his mother in so-called non-economic damages, such as the loss of love and comfort.
On top of that were economic damages, for which he did not set a figure, but cited analyses suggesting that the self-styled King of Pop could have made up to $1.6 million if he had lived and pursued a comeback world tour.
In the day’s most arresting moment, he played a 15-minute video compilation of Jackson’s hits, including “Thriller” and the star moonwalking to “Billie Jean,” combined with home-movie clips of the singer playing with his children.
“That I think is the best evidence of whether Mr. Jackson could have sold tickets,” he said after the extended video, which left some of the dozens of fans in court sobbing and hugging each other.
Panish insisted however he wasn’t trying to play on the jury’s emotions. “We’re not looking for sympathy, we’re looking for justice,” he told the trial, which moved to a larger 300-person capacity courtroom for its final stage.
Presiding judge Yvette Palazuelos unexpectedly ruled that the final few days of the trial, which started in April, can be televised.
Jackson died on June 25, 2009 from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol at his rented mansion outside Los Angeles, where he was rehearsing for the “This is It” shows at London’s 02 Arena. He was 50 years old.
Dr. Conrad Murray, a cardiologist, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in a criminal trial in 2011 for giving the drug to the star — who suffered from chronic insomnia — to help him sleep. Murray was jailed for four years.
In the civil trial, the singer’s mother Katherine Jackson, 83, alleges that AEG Live negligently hired an inappropriate and incompetent doctor and missed a series of red flags about his failing health in the run-up to his death.
“They chose not to check anything about Dr. Murray’s background .. They chose to run the risk, to make a huge profit, and they lost and they’re responsible,” said Panish.
“AEG wanted the King of Pop in their arena in London. They would do whatever it took to get him on stage… They were so excited about how much money they were going to make,” he added.
“They knew what they were getting. Now they want to come in and deny it.”
If the jury decides in the Jackson family’s favor, Panish suggested the jury split whatever compensation amount they decide on in the ratio of 30 percent for each of the three children, and 10 percent for Jackson’s 83-year-old mother Katherine, “because Katherine has a lesser life expectancy.”
But he stressed that the jury will make the final decision. “Thats up to you,” he said.
AEG Live counters that it did not sign a contract with Murray, and that a promised $150,000 a month for his services would come from an advance it was making to Jackson, meaning effectively that the star hired his own doctor.
The issue of who hired Murray is crucial to the case, and Panish re-played video clips of AEG Live CEO Randy Philips, in which he told Sky News that Murray was “willing to leave his practice for a very large sum of money.
“So we hired him,” said Philips, in what could prove decisive in the jurors’ decision-making process.
AEG Live’s lead lawyer, Marvin Putnam, is due to present his side’s closing arguments on Wednesday. Panish will then make final rebuttals on Thursday, before the jury retires to consider its verdict.
A 44-year-old lawyer, Kofi Yawson-Adjei, yesterday committed suicide by hanging himself. According to Ghanaweb.com, Yawson-Adjei, who is the Secretary of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GIS) and valuers, hanged himself in his private office on the first floor of a rented premises at Adabraka.
The father of three is said to have left his Kokomlemle residence about 3 a.m. for his office (in a taxi), where the incident took place.
He left a written note directing a lady named Narh to give a signed cheque for GH¢3,000 to his wife.
Yawson-Adjei was with the Valuation Estate and Surveying Division of the GIS and was Chief Executive Officer of Property Lane Limited.
When the Daily Graphic team got to the scene about 11 a.m., pockets of residents had gathered discussing the issue.
Personnel from the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service were also at the scene to convey the body to the Police Hospital mortuary.
The elder sister of the deceased would not allow members of the media to enter the office where the deceased was found hanging.
A picture captured on a mobile phone, however, showed the deceased wearing a white T-shirt and a red boxer’s shorts and hanging from the ceiling with a rope around his neck.
The Chairman of the Valuation Estate Surveying Division of the GIS, Mr Emmanuel Martey, who was at the scene of the incident, told the media that Yawson-Adjei was with the members of the division who had gone to Dodowa last Saturday for the marking of scripts of new members who were being admitted to the institution.
“We had conducted examination for our trainees for admission to membership, so we decided that we move outside Accra to have time and concentrate to mark and then do peer review.
“I was marking with him when he began complaining about being blank and being unable to appreciate what he was marking. I asked him on a number of occasions to go and rest,” he said.
According to Mr. Martey, Yawson-Adjei took the rest and came back after two hours but still complained of having gone blank.

On Sunday evening, he took Yawson-Adjei to the Valley View University Hospital for treatment, and on arrival the nurse observed him and said his blood pressure was very high because he had gone through so much stress.
“They gave us prescription and I took him back to the hotel. But he was still weak so we arranged for him to be taken home.
“I called his home this morning (yesterday) to find out his status, but I was told that something had happened and that he left home around 3 a.m. Apparently, they did not know where he was until they discovered him in his own office,” he said.
Another source told the Daily Graphic that his wife had called to inform Yawson-Adjei’s elder sister that her brother had left home at dawn and was nowhere to be found.
“It was when the sister dashed here around 6 a.m. that she discovered his body hanging,” the source said.
A neighbour who pleaded anonymity said he had seen the deceased arrive at the office building situated behind the CUA Building about 4 a.m. in a taxi.
“He was in the car for about 10 minutes and then later got out and went to his office. He was in T-shirt and boxer’s shorts,” the neighbour said.
A friend and neighbour of Yawson-Adjei, Mr Dan Agyekum, who was distraught at the turn of events, said he was yet to understand the cause of his friend’s death.
“Just last Thursday he signed my daughter’s university forms,” he said, and added: “I even saw him on Friday and we chatted.”
Yawson-Adjei , he said, did not show any sign of having a problem.
The Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the incident.
Mr Emmanuel Larweh, a surveyor who worked with Yawson-Adjei in the same building, told the Daily Graphic that Yawson-Adjei looked hale and hearty when he saw him last Friday, 20 September, 2013.
“He even handed over my portion of the scripts to be marked,” he said.

Catholic Priest In prison over assault to a police man!

A Catholic priest was, yesterday, remanded in prison custody over alleged attack on policemen investigating issues arising from the crisis in his parish in EnuguState.

The priest, who was arraigned alongside three other parishioners, was charged with assault and unlawful attempt to kill one Inspector Cosmos Nzeribe and a team of police officers attached to police headquarters, Enugu.

The Enugu Magistrate’s Court, which remanded the priest was, however, besieged by hundreds of his supporters, who wore long faces as the priest was being taken to the prison.
He was said to be having a running battle with the Bishop of Awgu Catholic Diocese.
Presiding Magistrate, E.M. Egumgbe, remanded the suspects in prison custody, saying that they can apply for bail in a high court.

Counsel to the priest, Ray Nnaji, who spoke with newsmen after the court session, said that his client was sent to prison on trumped up charges.

Nnaji said the policemen beat up the priest after stripping him naked and detained him.
He said: “I have been following this matter for some time.

“We know quite well that beating up the police is condemnable, though the priest has said he has no business with beating the police and did not tell anyone to beat the police.”

Okada Driver Caught Having Sex in a Bush with Married Lover!

A mild drama played out in Orlu, ImoState, when a commercial motorcyclist, a father of two (names withheld), was caught pants down making love to a married woman in a lonely bush.
While the 45-year-old housewife was making a case of rape against the randy motorcyclist, the 30-year-old man insisted that the woman was his concubine.
Giving account of what transpired to the police, the woman said she engaged the motorcyclist at Orlu to take her to her matrimonial home at Obibi-Ochasi.
She said when they got to a solitary area along the route, the man stopped ostensibly to ease himself.
She further told the police that while she was waiting for him to finish easing himself, the man emerged and started asking that they sleep together, adding that when she refused the amorous advance, the man grabbed her and forcefully lifted her into the bush.
The woman equally claimed that the rapist tore her inner wears to shreds, over-powered and raped her.
In his defence, the man claimed that the woman had been his concubine for years, adding that he had previously had fun with her at different times and places, including the spot where they were caught in the act.
He also claimed that he called the woman on her mobile line and asked her to meet him at the agreed spot in Orlu.
The man also claimed that when they got to the bush, the woman stripped herself naked, spread her wrapper on the ground and laid down before he started the act.
The randy motorcyclist, however, agreed that along the line there was a minor misunderstanding on the amount he should pay after they had satisfied themselves.
While the man claimed that the woman was asking for N500 for the service, he offered N200, which he said was the only money on him at the time.
Vanguard equally gathered that plan was in top gear to arraign the alleged rapist in court to face trial.
